Thread and Mercury is a needlepoint kit and accessory business. Yasmeen started Thread and Mercury in 2020 whilst on furlough from a job in fashion design. Needlepoint had always been a hobby but she struggled to find designs to her taste. Growing up, her Mum would always have a kit on the go. Whether it was Elizabeth Bradley, Ehrman or a Kaffe Fasset design, the house (and grandparents house!) was full of various upholstery items that she had made. This proved inspirational and as new designers emerged, Yasmeen started to get excited by the possibilities of what you can create with stitching wool onto canvas.

Yasmeen studied Fashion and Textiles and continued her career into fashion design. After 15 years in the industry, 2020 opened the doors of change to enable Thread and Mercury to grow! Yasmeen continues to design kits for her own brand Thread and Mercury as well as other well known brands like Appletons, Anchor and Ehrman.

Needlepoint is a therapeutic craft using various stitches onto an open weave fabric. The repetition of stitching makes it a very mindful craft and you can really switch off. There’s nothing like having something that you have created taking pride of place in your own home, whether it’s a cushion or framed on the wall. It becomes a work of art!
